I am honored to have served as one of the trainers in this exceptional UITP MENA training group. Together, we have made significant progress towards fostering an even more data-driven environment. I look forward to sharing this knowledge with new public transport operators and authorities in the MENA region. Here’s to the next phase!
🚦What makes a KPI actually useful in public transport? 📊

The answer? It’s not just about the data.At our third edition of Big Data and Business Intelligence in Public Transport UITP MENA training with Roads and Transport Authority Dubai’s transport professionals – from departments of planning and operations to bus and marine projects and passenger services – we explored one of the most crucial areas of digital transformation: turning raw data into real action.Worldwide, nearly 70% of data projects fail, because of how the data itself is being used by teams.
Here’s what stood out:
• Organisations must evolve from maturity level 3 (ad-hoc) to level 5 (optimised) to truly benefit from data-driven decision-making.
• Engaging people is the real success factor: KPI success grows when teams are empowered to co-design and own their dashboards.
• Focusing on derived KPIs – not just raw data – drives clarity and action.
• Open innovation and cross-sector partnerships are essential for smarter, collaborative mobility systems.
